On the international chessboard there are no "good guys and bad guys." There are only power relations which, combined with real or perceived threats, more or less legitimate ambitions, and latent or sudden opportunities, determine alliances or hostilities.
At any moment, this dynamic and unstable system can make one player look "bad" and another "good." At the next reshuffling of the deck, though, the situation can flip or be turned completely upside down.
Keep your certainties in check: they're fortresses made of playing cards, with foundations of butter. All it takes is the flicker of a candle or a ray of spring sunshine to bring them down.
