The pawns brawl, the castled rule
"Divide et impera"
is an ancient motto,
a Roman tactic
to yoke the rabble.
Two millennia on,
the techno-mass
- endowed with everything,
user of nothing -
polarizes on command
on issues forced on it,
swallowing slogans
of ultras-style propaganda.
Steered from a distance
by the real enemy,
the weapon's sights
are trained on a peer:
the fool shoots,
rails, foams at the mouth,
thinks himself enlightened,
valiant, righteous.
In the opposite trench
a clone mirrors him,
convinced, never conquered,
returning fire.
It's the ancestral brawl
between wretched pawns,
divided along lines
of someone else's convenience.
The castled rule
and smirk, satisfied:
the trick did work,
still works, and will work.
