Deluded is
Deluded is in fact
whoever believes that
all injustice must needs be
caused by an oligarchy,
and that, once it's rooted out,
evil would be put to rout,
so that in a world set right,
we'd all live with keen delight.
Reality is but flow and ebb,
an interconnected web,
a graph of full interdependence
beyond all the words of science,
where the isolated node
takes part in its own sweet mode
and every foolish devotee
is cause and cross of destiny.
We may depose the autocrat,
or expropriate the plutocrat,
incarcerate the Islamist,
and extradite the Zionist,
yet their place will soon be seized
by those claiming to be aggrieved:
because under an unjust regime
each man indulges in the scheme,
kneeling to the tyrant's will
for gain or for a lesser ill.
Choosing to accuse or sermonize,
through oversight or thin disguise,
and shining the light on others' wrongs
while nodding rarely at your own,
is but a signal, none too frank,
of belonging to the pack,
and surely no sincere commitment
to a future that's a bit more decent.
